Ahhh! The return of the Whitecross we all knew and loved! Time, it is said, heals all wounds. I would offer that the magic of music does not hurt when it is blended with a true love for God and His message of Love and Peace. We received the demo CD for Girder Records and immediately the CD into the first player we could find. We crossed our fingers and waited. What we heard were the all too familiar strains of Who Will You Follow? and then the not so familiar changes that Scott Wenzel & Rex Carroll had made to these classic metal songs. We listed to these changes and are please to report that the changes are good. Having heard the original recording hundreds of times during the formative years of high school and post-high school life, at a time when faith is tested and then re-tested, the lyrics and drive of the music that Whitecross delivered time and time again proved a powerful guiding force. Who can say that during their walk with Christ that they have not looked for a reason and doubted? The song Looking for a Reason supplies the listener with the answer clearly and with no shaded messages. The favorite of the staff here at FreeMP3Bible.Org is No Way I’m Goin’ Down with its boxing metaphors and eye of the tiger like feel. The song says that when you are against the ropes and find that you are just barely hanging on, do not let go. Jesus is standing there in your corner – just waiting to step and take your place in the ring if you will turn the fight over Him. Overall, the CD is recorded in better format and quality than any previous release to date. This new performance of such classic and respected material that is often cited as the best Christian metal ever produced makes it that much sweeter. Scott Wenzel’s voice has changed over the years and while he is no longer reaching for the typical high pitches of the early hair metal bands, he uses this new maturity for tone and inflection giving the listener the feel of being in the front row of the opening concert.
Though the CD is missing the ballad You’re Mine, it is not missing the heart, soul, and conviction that every Whitecross fan will remember and will no doubt impress an entirely new generation of listeners. Replacing the ballad is Love on the Line, which has not been available on CD before now. We wholeheartedly recommend this CD as an example of Christianity first and musical talent. If you wish to order Whitecross’s new CD 1987, please visit www.whitecrossmusic.com or www.girderrecords.com and hear something that is musically strong but lyrically powerful and straight forward. Great job guys! Thanks you so much for this CD!! |
